CV Prime substrate
The original MushRealm ACS recipe, the exact blend ACS runs in every grow: coir and vermiculite, pasteurized and hydrated to field capacity. Mix in colonized spawn and fruit straight from the bag.

Fully hydrated milo grain, pressure-sterilized and sealed in a 0.2 µm filter-patch bag with a self-healing injection port. Inoculate the moment it lands.

One grain bag spawns one CV Prime bag at about 1 : 2, the same pairing as our kits.
Your Grow Dashboard tracks every stage and reminds you when to air and mist.
Sterilized milo (sorghum) grain, fully hydrated and pressure-sterilized in a bag with a 0.2 micron filter patch and a self-healing injection port. It arrives ready to inoculate, so there is no soaking, simmering, bagging or pressure cooking to do. Pick a 3 lb bag for a single grow or a 5 lb bag to spawn bigger batches.
| Included | Not included |
|---|---|
| 3 lb or 5 lb of hydrated, pressure-sterilized milo | Live mycelium of your chosen species (you add it) |
| A 0.2 micron filter patch so the bag can breathe | A pressure cooker (you will not need one) |
| A self-healing injection port | Bulk substrate: CV Prime is sold on its own or in the kit |
Milo is a small, round, hard grain. Every kernel is an inoculation point, and a 3 lb bag holds a huge number of them, so mycelium jumps from grain to grain quickly and spreads evenly when you mix it into bulk substrate. Its tough hull resists bursting during sterilization, which keeps the bag loose and easy to break up. More on the choice in oats vs milo grain spawn.
| Species | Spawn it into | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Oyster (blue, pearl, pink, golden) | CV Prime or straw | The easiest place to start |
| King oyster | Supplemented hardwood sawdust | Likes a cooler fruiting room |
| Lion's mane | Supplemented hardwood sawdust | Harvest before the spines yellow |
| Shiitake | Hardwood sawdust blocks or logs | A longer run, worth the wait |
| Wine cap | Wood chip beds outdoors | A garden bed favorite |

Keep unopened bags somewhere cool and dark and use them promptly: sterile grain is at its best soon after it arrives. Do not freeze.
